My composition for concert band in two movements is entitled "Dreams of Otherworldly Places." The work is an example of how, in dreams, we can envision all sorts of creative, often obscure places that are always energetic and exciting. I enjoy them because I can imagine anything I want and create these favorite, strange and otherworldly places. The fast, energetic and often violent tone of the music interprets the precarious nature of people's dreams. We sometimes loose control, and, although the vision is there, it becomes distorted, perhaps even slipping out of our control and into unpredictable excitement.
Also, the poor quality of this recording is due to a lack of rehearsal time. The High School Wind Ensemble is not used to playing anything of this style and difficulty. Other conflicts restricted our rehearsal time to six days. Please judge the composition by the score and not just an unpolished recording. The band will continue practicing this piece and will be performing it later in the school year.
